Antonio Mannings Bio

I was born and reared in Chicago, and I’m a product of Chicago Public Schools. I am a decorated combat veteran having served as a Security Forces Journeyman in the United States Air Force from 2002 through 2005 in campaigns Operation Iraqi Freedom and the Global War on Terrorism. While serving in the Air Force, I achieved an associate degree in Criminal Justice. Upon my discharge and return to Chicago, I returned to school and received a BA in Business from Chicago State University and a graduate degree in Organizational Leadership from Lewis University.

I have worked in a series of management positions throughout my career, first in retail industries, but then shifting to the educational arena so that I could put my knowledge to work helping others achieve their educational dreams. Currently, I am Marketing Manager for Pearson Embanet in Elk Grove Village, Illinois.

I live in the McKinley Park neighborhood with my wife Vanessa Guevara who is a first year law student at The John Marshall Law School. I have always been enthusiastic about activism and volunteerism – donating time and money to organizations such as Feeding America, Habitat for Humanity, the Greater Chicagoland Food Depository, and Illinois Child Identification Program (Illinois CHIP). I enjoy travel, fitness and theater.

I will use my education and military/private sector experience to guide my legislative priorities that focus on the fiscal health of the State and meeting the needs of the people in my district. We know that government does not create private sector jobs, so it’s the responsibility of the State to get out of the way. When it comes to State government, there is an abundance of redundancies, bureaucracy, overlap, and red tape. A smaller government would be able to better adjust to the needs of its citizens without impeding private sector progress. As a former law enforcement officer in the military, I know what works and I know what doesn't when it comes to fighting crime, and educational reform is part of the answer.
