Mark Kirk's Address On "Us Foreign Policy In the 21st Century" At Chicago Council On Global AffairsPosted by: Lumi Boldovici on Aug 11, 2010 Tagged in: Untagged

Mark is a consequential congressman! That was Richard Cooper's introduction of Mark Kirk this past Monday as he was preparing to give a speech about United State's foreign policy.
But why talk about foreign policy when we have an economic catastrophe at home? Because a coherent foreign policy is essential for the survival of the republic. I definitely concur. A policy of isolationism and retreat from the world stage is precarious and catastrophic. It will leave a vacuum of power in which rogue regimes like Iran will definitely increase fueling their support for terrorist organization such as Hamas & Hezbollah that bear lots of responsibility for the destabilization of the Middle East and have turned Gaza into a human shield from which they cowardly operate and keep the Palestinian people hostage to their tactics. One particular issue of concern is Abbas' limited authority in the area. Another issue requiring immediate attention is Iran's nuclear proliferation. Kirk advocates economic sanctions , specifically the cessation of gasoline export to Iran which constitutes 40% of Iran's fuel . Kirk also supports the idea that the president should support Iranian dissidents and the human rights movement that is growing into a strong popular opposition to the autocratic regime of the Mullahs. I definitely concur.
Without Ronald Reagan;s support of the "Solidarity " movement in Poland and strong ad vocation of human rights communism would have not collapsed when it did. Ronald Reagan knew who the enemy was and he was not afraid to call it out. Can you imagine Ronald Reagan saying : "communism is a peaceful regime" or "let's reach out to communists and make them feel good about themselves!'????????
Just because Obama stopped his war on terrorism , terrorist did not stop their war on America. On the contrary they have gained more audacity. A clear and evident example of this audacity is the effort to build a mosque near ground zero. This is an unnecessary provocation and an act of psychological warfare. It has nothing to do with religious freedom and so on. It has to do with respecting the memory of the 3000 innocent civilians that died there. It is an act of cruelty that should be denounced and condemned by every American indifferent of religious or cultural background. Especially by American Muslims.
But what does Obama do about it? He delegated the person behind the Cordoba Initiative or Ground Zero Mosque, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf an individual of questionable intentions to represent the State Department as a special envoy to the Middle East. Very sensible foreign policy move.
But getting back to Kirk's speech, one particular area of concern is Afghanistan where according to Kirk the Narco Taliban insurgency is strong due to the fact that the Taliban are subsidized by millions of dollars of heroin money which gives them unprecedented power and resilience. Kirk supports president Obama's conduct of the Afghanistan war and thinks that the solution for Afghanistan is a feasible one providing the fact that a loose confederation of Afghan tribes with a federal power based on respecting the tribal sovereignty in return for the tribes to respect the federal government's foreign policy. Personally I think that this is the best solution for Afghanistan since their perception of organization favors more tribal autonomy.
So far we know that this administration's foreign policy is more about appeasing dictators, rewarding enemies and forsaking our friends. Kirk stated : history has not been kind to the people that sacrificed Poland. Referring to the decision of this administration to renounce the installation of the anti missile shield in Poland.
Ultimately, foreign policy is an area where I concur with Mark Kirk and I think he has the right perception about who our enemies are and what we need to do to safeguard our freedoms and liberties in a world that is becoming dangerously complacent to anti western values and barbarity such as Sharia Law which is in full violation of our national sovereignty and Constitution. No cruel and unjust punishment! Unfortunately, Britain has allowed this in just system to oppress women and their human rights!
The next century it may also be entitled America Alone. But we will never , ever give up our freedom or country and our idea of justice as so justly illustrated by Martin Luther King : "injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere"!
God Bless America!
NOTE: ONLY THE SECOND AND SIXTH PARAGRAPHS CONTAIN KIRK'S IDEAS ON FOREIGN POLICY
