IT IS BETTER TO BE LUCKY THAN GOOD - SANTORUM'S RISEPosted by: Ted Durham on Jan 04, 2012 Tagged in: Untagged

Rick Santorum was the eventual winner of the anti-Romney sentiment. His timing was perfect and nicely assisted by Evangelicals in Iowa.
However, there are still certain realities he must face. The money should start pouring in, but that is easier said than done. If he doesn't reap a huge harvest of funds, he won't be competitive across the nation. The other fact is that he was actually the least liked of the anti-Romneys. The fickle music chairs of Perry, Cain, and Gingrich fervors took up all the limelight. Reporters were asking Santorum last week if he was going to drop out.
Gingrich lamented the barrage of negative advertising and spin when he was the flavor of the month. Santorum has yet to feel the heat, wrath, of the other spinmeisers on the edge of desperation.
If Romney truly has double the next nearest competitor in New Hampshire, I still stand with my prediction that Romeny is going to be the nominee.
A week is a lifetime in politics, so Santorum will need to play his hand masterfully. He has had difficulty campaigning. His loses will shortly turn into his inability to beat Obama.
Santorum was more lucky than good. This is his week in the spotlight. Let the vetting begin.

Rick Santorum 25%
Mitt Romney 25%
Ron Paul 21% (trailing by less than 4,000 votes)

It should not be too hard for the GOP's masters to figure out that Paul is the only one of their hopefuls who has a realistic chance of dividing support for Obama. Bleeding hearts tend to fear and loathe Paul, of course, but leftists who despise Americans' habitual warmongering and aggression even more know well enough what Paul would do to the organized crime racket seated at the Pentagon. (Democrats, too, understand this, so their leadership has another reason to hate him.) Maybe they don't understand why he'd struggle to kill the Federal Reserve System, one of the means by which both militarism and welfare statism are financed, but the importance of this detail could be explained to them while adding the observation that a purpose of the FRS is to rig commerce in banking services. That it's roots in the GOP are deep could be another source of embarrassment.
Also bear in mind the fact that many Democrats and leftists have tagged Obama as a tool for crony capitalists and warmongers.
On the other hand, the threat of Santorum or Romney or Gingrich as president would excite the leftists and Democrats. Obama would benefit, for many can him support only by holding their noses and with fear of the consequences of not doing so.
