Avatar's financial success worldwide has made this movie so far the number 2 movie of all times ( a billion worldwide).I do not know if I should offer my congratulations to James Cameron , for number one he stated that "great wealth" makes him uncomfortable and secondly, you never know when he snaps by using invectives in the process .
Noticing the disdain of some Hollywood "studio communists" concerning wealth can only mean one thing: hypocrisy is the cause of that statement. Considering the resources , the technology and the climate of freedom necessary in order for an epic to see the light of day.
That means that if Cameron would have lived during a time of pristine environmental integrity such as the one portrayed on Pandora among the Na'Vi. He would live in harmony with the nature but would lack the technology to create movies. Opportunity to profit financially and of course bash America in the process. In this case more specifically the target was the American military.
Avatar has sparked a polemical "blog war" between liberals and conservatives. Justly so, Cameron could have employed the "Soldiers of Allah" as hired mercenaries seeking unobtanium. But that would have probably gotten him the Solomon Rushdie treatment . An extremely counterproductive strategy...
Whereas on the other side bashing the valor and code of honor of our military and even Christianity at times will have little consequences. Quite, contrary, the level of mediation will translate into a box office success.
James Cameron and any other movie director are entitled to their own particular vision and film creation. By no means, should one advocate censorship or boycott. It is up to the American public to decide if they would like to see the movie or not.
But in the same time conservatives have their right to expose their point of view and perception about the motion picture by creating awareness about the elements of the story that distort reality and portray our military as crazed cold blooded profit driven killers.
Motion picture has a tremendous impact upon people's psyche and perception of reality. Thus, it is important to clearly understand and perceive the portrayal of characters and plot at their face value.
Employing superlative 3D special effects Avatar, has created lots of enthusiasm and excitement globally. In fact, there is a wave on internet forum "post -Avatar" depression (CNN.com) . It seems that some individuals were profoundly affected by the motion picture's exotic portrayal of life on Pandora. Individuals are expressing a certain desire to inhabit and engage in fantasy land's blissful life .
A good friend of mine has also corroborated this by expressing extreme enchantment of life in Avatar . This is an example of motion picture's power to affect collective mentality and consensual reality. For obvious reasons it is important to engage in a serious and truthful portrayal of characters and messages without cognitive distortions.
My message to Cameron. Here in Illinois we are extremely comfortable with great wealth. And we have a subject in need of immediate attention: "Thomson". Illinois will need a great film to escape this precarious reality...I have a great idea for the next movie . How about if we give the prospective Thompson detainees to Cameron? It will strengthen the authenticity of the movie and be a smash at the box office...
