Is "Conservatism" too important to be left to the Republican Party?Posted by: Lumi Boldovici on Nov 03, 2009 Tagged in: Untagged

According to the most recent Rasmussen poll 73% of Republicans believe that their party representatives in Congress have lost touch with the GOP Base. Olympia Snow who voted for the Stimulus Bill is a good example of that.
Certainly the current congressional race in New York's Upper state district 23 reflect that the voters as well as some conservative voices such as Sarah Palin do not have a lot of confidence in party's leadership.
The endorsement of moderate (RINO) Dede Scozzafava by 11 county leaders as the Republican's party nominee for Congress has created a political revolution among conservative party base and a debatable ideological rift between moderates and conservative Republicans.
Personally, I think everyone, including pundits need to relax and stop dramatizing about the inability of the republican party to lead successfully. Eleven county leaders do not speak and represent the entire country. After all politics is supposed to be a local thing, right?
Newt Gingrich is also taking a lot of political heat right now for endorsing Scozzafava's nomination. I believe Newt made an honest mistake by respecting the decision of the party. While on the other extreme Sarah Palin is extolled as a visionary. Fair enough, I like Sarah.
I beg to differ. First, we need a great coalition to win. Secondly, the republican party practices party democracy within the party.
We do not ostracize people who have different opinions about issues. The powers rest with the voters. Third, and lastly there is no ideological confusion and political divisionas the left would like to propagandize within the Republican party. It is absurd and undemocratic to have a 100% agreement on every issue.
Demonizing moderate Republicans as RINO's is vindictive and counter productive politically. Time is of the essence we do not have time to debate about the sex of the angels. The debate of who is more conservative , is childish and futile. There is clear evidence of that by examining one's voting record.
Evidently, McCain a moderate was an ill decision, and so was Scozzafava. A question emerging from this example is that the electorate no longer support candidates anoited by national organizations.
Obviously Scozzafava's support of the stimulus bill, cap & trade, card-check, pro-choice and pro gay marriage position did not resonate well with the voters. She would have supported legislation favorable to the democrats. By emulating the Snow precedent a position that would have been advantageous to Pelosi. Republicans cannot afford that.
Winning as many seats in congress and senate is indispensable for obvious reasons.
Now, with Scozzafava's dropping out of the race It looks like conservative Doug Hoffman has a comfortable lead over the democratic opponent and he will probably win.
This will be a great political revival and surge for conservatism.
In Virginia's race for governor the Republican contender Robert McDonnel has two digit lead, he will definitely win.
The New Jersey race for Governor it seems to be a very close race. There is a possibility that Chris Christie will defeat Corzine. Corzine is unpopular, New Jersey has a big deficit, high unemployment, rising taxes and is dominated by rampart corruption.
If Christie wins there will be a political earthquake in Washington. This will definitely be perceived as a referendum on Obama and his administration catastrophic policies. I do not care how strongly the administration left pundits are going to undermine and deny it!
The democrats will lose political capital and seats in congress. With the exception of California's 10th District Congressional race where the democrats will win.
This will definietly provide a solid base for the Republican 2010 Initiative.
Dede Scozzafa's nomination will serve as a valuable lesson. Her political imaturity and naivite was exploited by Rahm Emanuel who I understand politely urged Dede to throw the support behind the democratic contender.
Nice try Emanuel, believe me it is not going to work voters are smarter than that.
