After the primary, if there is no Republican candidate for an elected office, the ward committeemen of the district can appoint someone to fill the vacancy.
The vacancy must be filled within 60 days of the primary. (See election calendar to determine exact deadline.)
All committeemen in the district must be notified of the time and date of an organizational meeting. The meeting must occur within the district.
A chairman and secretary must be nominated.
The candidate must fill out two forms:
Statement of Candidacy (notarized)
Statement of Economic Interest (note countywide candidates fill out the county form, the rest fill out the state form
The organizational committee fills out two documents:
Resolution to Fill a Vacancy
Certificate of Organization
The forms must be submitted within 3 days of the organizational meeting and prior to the deadline.
The forms must be submitted to the Illinois State Board of Elections in Springfield, except for countywide candidates; they are filled with the Cook County Clerk (69 W. Washington, 5th floor)
