I hear many politicos ask a series of litmus test questions to candidates which don't reflect the office for which they are running.
Peter Garza, who is a pro-life conservative, was at his wits end when he ran against Tom Dart for Cook County Sheriff. He kept getting asked his views on the life/choice debate.
He was frustrated because his office was for Sheriff. He wanted to be vetted and asked about his law enforcement experience which he knew to be vastly superior to Tom Dart who was an administrator and never even went to any police training academy.
How do we educate politicos to ask relevant questions?

Problem is, those politicos know exactly what they're doing. Must learn it in J school.
This is no small frustration for me - in municipal elections, we should be talking about crime, education, taxes, etc. They might as well ask for your position on missile treaties. But of course, it's a good way to divide people when our candidates can otherwise hold their own.
