New Website N/A The Comments are back!!!!
Illinois Republican Party State Central Committee adopts rules governing election of its members at March 3 county conventions N/A I was hoping the SCC would ban the informal practice of having County Chairman cast the weighted vote of Committeemen who do not show for the SCC election Conventions. While an argument can be made that the primary voters should all have their weighted vote count, that is more an issue between those voters and the no-show Committeemen they elect.
Springfield Seeks to Roll Back Reforms in Illinois Freedom of Information Act N/A "Illinois is for Idiots" only if we continue to allow this nonsense to permeate our government on every level. If we keep voting them in, they will keep doing it. Behavior rewarded is behavior repeated.
Springfield Seeks to Roll Back Reforms in Illinois Freedom of Information Act N/A Bad behavior has been much rewarded. The issue is what we do now, once the State sinks after hitting the fiscal iceberg.
Dold Calls Administration's Treatment of Netanyahu "Unacceptable" N/A It was better than that. I want to hear the expanation for when Obama told Netanyahu that he was going upstairs to have dinner with Michelle and the kids, leaving the Israelis to sit in the Roosevelt Room and ponder the points Obama had just made to them. The "First Ego" strikes again!!!
42nd Ward GOP Monthly Breakfast N/A Kudos to Eloise Gerson and Jon Blessing. The 42nd Ward Breakfasts are growing sharply in attendance, with excellent guest speakers.
KELLY'S TOP 10 REASONS WHY RAHM WANTS TO BE MAYOR OF CHICAGO HITS #1 AT THE WASHINGTON TIMES N/A Hysterical!
Arizona Protests at Wrigley and Liberal Bias at Channel 11 N/A It is a Rassmussen Reports poll from April 21. http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/elections2/election_2010/election_2010_senate_elections/arizona/70_of_arizona_voters_favor_new_state_measure_cracking_down_on_illegal_immigration
Good Quote N/A Hey! They ain't no imbeciles. They were born right here in this country.
On Bailouts and Sen. Bob Bennett N/A Banks are not marking to the market on commercial property. If they did, a huge number of U.S. banks would be underwater, and sinking. The Obama Administration has allowed them to cheat to avoid the problem.
UPDATED: Kagan's Socialist Senior Thesis Found. Tea Party Targets Kagan - Explosive College Thesis Discovered N/A I wrote on the topic of why socialism never rose in this country in this blog on April 23, 2010: "Historians have long debated why the United States never went the way of Europe, with its long tradition of socialist thinking and governments, such as the Labour Party in Britain. While America has had civil unrest, labor wars, anarchists, populists, and even a Great Depression, American voters have stubbornly rejected Socialism at the ballot box. Many historians adopt a Marxist approach of class struggle, and assert that the American working class never had the centuries of feudalism, serfdom and aristocratic monarchies, that blocked social mobility and enforced a rigid class structure in the society. Others assert that the American working class is so mixed in background and ancestry that creating a cohesive political movement out of it all is impossible. A third, odder theory is “American triumphalism” in which the working class is so patriotic that they are unwilling to be a counteractive force to national advancement. They all overlook the simple fact that those who made it to these shores were the ones that wanted liberty and self-advancement so badly that they risked all to get it. Economic freedom is in our bones on this side of the Atlantic, though the generations." I also wrote on April 23 that Obama is seeking to lay the foundation of socialism though the new class of government financial dependents. I am quite worried that this thesis seems to point exactly the same way, and she's going on the Sutperme Court.
UPDATED: Kagan's Socialist Senior Thesis Found. Tea Party Targets Kagan - Explosive College Thesis Discovered N/A Having read the the thesis, it is more a scholarly, 130 page analysis of why Socialism did not survive in New York after about 1919. It does not espouse Socialism, and is no "manifesto." In the "Conclusion", which contains the quoted material, she appears to have a desire for social change (most liberal college seniors do), and a sympathy for the Socialists, but that is as far as it goes. But those quotes will generate some juicy questions in the Senate hearings.
On Bailouts and Sen. Bob Bennett N/A Go down that route and your "liquidation" you contemplate may be far larger than you think and extend far, far beyond banks. I remind you that an important aspect of our economy is to put dinner on the table in millions of American homes, every night. They can't eat intellectual purity.
On Bailouts and Sen. Bob Bennett N/A WHOA! Stop speaking of TARP and the Stimulus like they are bookends. TARP and the Stimulus are two very different things. TARP was a specific, albeit large, program to save the banking and crexdit system from meltdown, with specific requirements of stock transfer or repayment. The Stimulus is just a big bag o' goodies for Obama and the Demcrats to hand out, with no repayment of anything.
Republican Traitors: Who Can You Trust? N/A Former, Actually the Chicago GOP is one of the few regular GOP organization that is on good terms with the Tea Parties, since we are anti-corruption, anti-tax and anti-big governement. I have attended Tea Party organizational meetings. I found that the mainstream media protrayals fo the Tea Party movement as a bunch of kooks is one of the biggest political smears in U.S. history.
Chicago Republican Party Announces New Executive Director N/A I met with Pete Bella for hours this week and am very excited that he is joining the Chicago Republican Party team. Pete is a "doer" not a talker. He wants campaign action on the streets far more than parties. He is a retired Chicago Police Officer, but just in his 50s and thin as a rail, and knows the City of Chicago from north, south, east, west and top to bottom. He also knows the politics, and is Republican through and through. Chicago is perhaps the most complex political environment in the country. You simply have to know the City to work a campaign here. Pete knows it.
Republican Traitors: Who Can You Trust? N/A I had respect for Maureen (though I felt she was way too tied to Joe Berrios.) Some of her flunkies and proteges, not so much. May she rest in peace.
We Suffer So the Mayor can Keep His Kitty of $1 Billion Plus (and Growing). N/A Good question. I believe the answer is technically no, but games are already being played in which TIF money from one TIF district gets spent in another. Like everything else in Chicago, if Mayor Daley wants to do it, it will happen, one way or another.
On Bailouts and Sen. Bob Bennett N/A Scott Davis, I think you are merging spending and borrowing by the government with other things, such as saving the credit industry in what was for all practical purposes a "financial panic" just as America suffered in 1893 and 1907, before the creation of the Fed. In 1893 and 1907, economic depressions lasting for years were the result. In "The Panic of 2008", however, it was the existence of the Fed, and its ability to assess the situation and funnel resources directly in to failing banks, that saved the day. Had the Fed not been around, the situation would have gone to disaster for the whole country. I see the Meltdown as one of the Fed's finest hours, as it pulled Wall St. back from the brink created by greed and folly. Sure debt has to be reduced. But allowing the Wall St. financial system to collapse, and the country to go into depression, strikes me as questionable medicine.
On Bailouts and Sen. Bob Bennett N/A May 24, 2010: "The Treasury Department said Wednesday it raised $6.2 billion from the sale of 1.5 billion shares of Citigroup stock it received as part of the government's rescue of the bank."
