Despite having nearly all of the official RNC-scheduled agenda cancelled yesterday, the Illinois delegation still had an action-packed day!
Our delegation convened for our morning session with remarks from IL GOP Chairman Pat Brady, Treasurer Dan Rutherford, House Leader Tom Cross, and Senate Leader Christine Radogno. The topic was Illinois politics and the message coming from party leadership was clear and consistent: if we're going to change Illinois for the better, we need to fire Mike Madigan. Optimism runs high this year as our state House and Senate candidates are giving us several solid pickup opportunities this November.
With the entirety of the day's official events postponed, we all found ourselves with a wide-open schedule. After the morning session adjourned, most of us spent the next several hours talking business with our fellow GOP'ers from here in Illinois and with the GOP delegation from Oregon, with whom we are sharing the hotel. Tampa was spared the brunt of tropical storm Isaac's force, and we enjoyed the rest of what was a somewhat windy and wet Monday. Our prayers go out to the gulf residents being impacted by Isaac today and tomorrow and we are all hoping for the best possible outcome.
Today, we set about the formal business of nominating Mitt Romney to be our candidate for President of the United States. We'll convene at 2:00pm today to open proceedings, and, by the end of the day, the Illinois delegation will have cast its unanimous vote for the Romney-Ryan ticket. Most importantly, we'll have chosen the man who will, with the help of your hard work, become the next leader of the free world.
It's a true honor to be here in Tampa participating in this amazing process. Thank you for all you do in support of our party in Chicago and for our candidates at all levels.
