A South Side Thanksgiving

Now that the holiday season is close and people are making plans for Thanksgiving we are asking that you personally get involved and support our friend Pastor Corey Brooks of New Beginnings Church located at 66th and S. King Drive. Pastor Brooks is attempting to provide 5,000 needy families on the south side of Chicago (mostly from the Woodlawn and Englewood communities) who otherwise might go hungry on Thanksgiving Day.  I am reaching out to you for financial assistance to make this possible. At a time when many people are focused on giving thanks for the bounty in their lives, others are feeling the pain of need.

The problems that exist in the inner city of Chicago are everyone’s problem as they affect us all.  Solutions are also the responsibility of us all.  We know that the Democrats have done a great disservice to the Black community in Chicago and that many Blacks are starting to recognize that fact. We also know that Republicans have historically been timid about going into these communities to get involved and provide solutions.  Solutions will come from helping hands over a period of time.  Helping hands means consistent involvement where people live and private sector job opportunities.  This is where Republicans can….MUST….help make a difference.

New Beginnings Church, along with Walsh Freedom, Young Leaders Alliance and Project H.O.O.D. are hosting the annual “Put the Giving Back in Thanksgiving” event for needy people who are feeling the pain of poverty and misfortune.  Each Thanksgiving gift basket will include:

  • 1 – Whole Turkey (12-15#)
  • 2 – Whole Kernel Corn (13 oz microwavable pouches)
  • 2 – French Style Green Beans (14.5 oz cans)
  • 1 – Cream of Mushroom Soup (10.5 oz can)
  • 2 – Sliced Peaches (15 oz cans)
  • 2 – Turkey Stuffing Mix (6 oz boxes)
  • 1 – Apple Crisp Mix (8.5 oz box)
  • 1 – Ground Coffee (1.5 oz packet)
  • 1 – Fresh Russet Potatoes (5 pound bag)

Won’t you please help make it possible for this annual charitable tradition to continue?

Last year, 2,500 families were fed on Thanksgiving with a meal cost of $25.00 each and both numbers are expected to increase this year. The fundraising goal for this year’s Thanksgiving meal is $130,000.00.  This will allow 5,000 families at $26.00 for each gift basket to enjoy the day.

Please help me support this critical goal today.  We are also asking for volunteers to donate their time and energy to facilitate the distribution of the food baskets.

To make a tax deductible donation by credit card, go to www.gofundme/feed5000 or call #773-326-4200.  You may also send a check payable to:

New Beginning Church of Chicago
6620 S. King Drive
Chicago, IL 60637

Please write “Thanksgiving Giving” in the memo section of your check.

Your kindness and generosity are greatly appreciated and will make a difference in the lives of so many people.  Thank you for getting involved and making a difference.

Regards,

Chris Cleveland
